Emeco Furniture LogoEmeco's founder, Witton C. Dinges, was a master tool and die maker with an engineering background. He believed that a hands-on approach to production using outstanding materials would lead to outstanding design and outstanding furniture. It is a vision that has served Emeco well since 1944.

Few organizations have as storied a history as the Electric Machine and Equipment Company. Since then, it has expanded its offering but held closely to Dinges' vision. Emeco and its manufacturing facilities are based in Hanover, Pennsylvania.

Designed for the Hudson Hotel in 1999, Hudson Chairs and Barstools are a more neutral transmutation of the classic Navy Chair. "It's an attempt to remain faithful to the Emeco spirit," says Philippe Starck. "The styling is meant to be very pure, very reductive. It's not meatn to be loud." The Hudson Chair was added to the Museum of Modern Art's permanent design collection in 2000.
