What to look for when buying a sofa:

Sofas are a commitment.  If they weren’t, you wouldn’t go over to grandma’s house and sit on her flower-upholstered monstrosity with sagging cushions and a color pattern that hasn’t been in production since 1972.  Most people don’t buy a sofa often, so it’s imperative that your sofa fits you and your lifestyle, since you’ll own it for years.

A sofa is more than just a place to sit and watch TV every night.  Of course you’ll use it for that, but not every combination of stuffing, fabric, and wood produces the same couch.  Some have clean lines, others have luscious curves.  Some sofas have wood frames, and others have sleek metal.  Here are some helpful pointers to get you matched up with the perfect sofa for you and your space:

  • Know what kind of space you’re working with.  For example, I’d love to have the Stressless E300 Sectional, but it wouldn’t fit in a studio apartment.  We have a large selection of loveseats, sectionals, apartment sofas, and lounge chairs to help you get a sofa that will fit perfectly in your home.  Figuring out sizing should be your first step towards identifying your perfect sofa.
  • Do you need your sofa to be more than a sofa?  Some folks need a sofa that does more—a simple, glorified bench isn’t going to cut it.  Maybe you have friends over often, and you’d like to be able to convert your sofa into a bed to better accommodate them?  Maybe you live in a studio apartment, and multi-functional furniture is a necessity for you.  You’ll want to take a look at our Sofa Beds if that’s the case.
  • What kinds of fabric do you like touching?  Some people swear by leather sofas, because the material is durable and it ages gracefully.  The only problem with leather is that you walk around in your birthday suit when you’re at home alone, and you don’t like the way your bare bum sticks to it.  Do you have little ones who will be eating Cheetos around your sofa while they’re watching Saturday morning cartoons?  Don’t get a white sofa.  You’ll regret it.  Get something that will resist staining and rebuff their attempts to ruin your nice things.
  • What do you think is pretty?  Are you aiming for a modern or traditional look? Some high-modern sofas like the Eames Sofa are going to look really neat, but they might not be very inviting.  Younger sofas are traditional with a modern flare, and Gus sofas are clean, contemporary, and sleek. Coaster is your ticket to traditional.

Shopping for a sofa can seem like a daunting task with all of the options that are available, but with a bit of direction, you can find the perfect one for you and your space.  We’re here to make sure that you know exactly what to expect with your different sofa options, and we’re happy to send samples so you can see, feel, and understand the differences between them.  Even though buying a new sofa is a major commitment, it’s not a purchase that you have to make often, so there’s no reason to rush the decision and not consider all of your options.  We’re here to make sure you get exactly what you want and need so that you can enjoy your furniture for years to come.

THANK YOU!
