About The Manufacturer
Creativity and technology, glamour and functionality, quality and innovation: a combination of extraordinary factors together with a strategic vision of distribution has contributed to the lasting success of Kartell. By cultural and entrepreneurial choice, since its origins in 1949 the Italian manufacturer has chosen to characterize itself as the market leader in the production of designers articles which use technology and plastic materials. This choice requires a great understanding of materials and transformation technology. A leader in furniture design, Kartell addresses an international audience with a collection unique in originality, variety, size, and range.
Antonio Citterio was born in Meda in 1950. He graduated in architecture from Milan Polytechnic and opened his studio in 1972 where he started his architectural and interior design business. Between 1987 and 1996, he worked in association with Terry Dwan and, together, they created buildings in Europe and Japan. Among his most significant works: the restyling of a block in the historical centre of Seregno, Esprit headquarters in Amsterdam, Antwerp and Milan, industrial plants for Vitra, in Germany, and for Antonio Fusco, in Milan. In 1999 “Antonio Citterio and Partners†was founded by Citterio and Patricia Viel, a multidisciplinary practice for architectural design, industrial design and graphics. Antonio Citterio and Partners has taken part in a great number of international competitions, winning many. Since 2006, Antonio Citterio has been a professor at the Accademia di Architettura dell’Università della Svizzera Italiana and, since 2007, he has been a member of the Italian Design Council. In 2007, he received the “Royal Designer for Industry†award from the “Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce†in London.
Glen Oliver Low, born in Germany in 1959, studied design until 1985 on the Industrial Design faculty of Wuppertal University. In 1986, he received the "Master of Design" award from the Domus Academy in Milan for his design study for a compact car. After becoming a staff member at Antonio Citterio Studio in Milan in 1987, he went on, in 1990, to become Citterio's partner in design, and was involved in producing office furniture for Vitra, as well as numerous products for companies such as Kartell.
