Cobi and the Environment
| The Cobi Chair, designed by PearsonLloyd in collaboration with Steelcase, not only ends those hours of discomfort at your desk, but the Cobi's entire lifecycle is sustainable and eco-friendly. The Cobi earned Cradle to Cradle Silver Product Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). The Steelcase Cobi also has Indoor Air Advantage certification from Scientific Certification Systems as being a low emitting product. The Cobi is undergoing a complete Lifecycle Assessment evaluating the Cobi's lifelong impact on the environment - from materials extraction through production, shipping, use, and end of life. The Connect fabric on the Cobi Chair is an antimony free polyester. Heavy metals bio-accumulate and can be toxic to humans and the environment, and this material is certified by MBDC as having less than 100 parts per million of any heavy metal of concern. As a member of the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Leadership Club, Steelcase has continued its commitment to finding more effective ways to conserve resources and prevent pollution every day. Read more about Steelcase's commitment to the environment in the 2009 Steelcase Corporate Responsibility Report:
Successful companies perform at a high level on three dimensions: creating shareholder value by being a profitable enterprise, establishing an agenda that speaks to the social issues of the day and advancing the health of the environment.
At Steelcase, we believe in a balanced approach to profit, people and planet. Beginning nearly 100 years ago, we committed to a social contract with the communities in which we lived and served. We would produce great furniture, be a great place to work, share profits with our shareholders and the community and leave the world a better place.
