It is the coolest chair I have ever seen and at age 56 it would be great to sit in a cool chair.

Dear wonderful creators of the Cobi office chair, It is my unfortunate circumstance that brings us together in this paragraph of heartfelt pleading. As it would seem my desk is not really a desk, nor is my chair really a chair. I have usurped a card table set from my parents house to serve as both desk and desk chair. Not only is it thoroughly unattractive, but it also not very comfortable for the hours I spend painting at it. Sure for sketching I can use my butterfly chair, but trying to paint in a butterfly chair is limiting and my chin and the top of the table are parallel. As a college student, starting out in graphic design I find the innovation of the Cobi unique and refreshing. I it would make the long hours slaving away on Indesign and Illustrator much more comfortable.

A Cobi would not only be classy, but would fit beautifully in with decor and force me to give back the card table and endeavor towards finding a real desk. Sincerely, a poor college student with a lame chair.

I was a truck driver and injured my back, I can no longer drive and on social security. I really need a comfortable chair to sit in while on the computer. I have no been able to afford to get a new one and this looks so comfortable and back supportive. I would love to win it.

I desperately need a new computer desk chair. I kept getting a horrible pain in my left back. I went to the emergency room every 6 months for 2 years. I finally started going to various doctors to find out why I kept getting those severe pains. They were "jump off the roof" pains. I saw an orthopedic doctor, a uroligist and then finaly a kidney doctor. He said my kidney could not be the problem. So maybe it stems from having a bad chair. I stay at the puter day and night. I am legally blind and can't drive. So I bought a computer to entertain myself. I would love to see if your new chair will help me. I am truly in need.

All the cushioning in my chair is flat as a pancake. I have tried putting a pillow on the seat but that isn't comfy and the back of my thighs still go numb. I've even put my car seat massager pad on my lousy chair with no good result. A Cobi chair is exactly what I need to be able to sit and work.

I really need a new office chair. I worked for the parking enforcement and injured my back when writing tickets. I have had severe back pain ever since and have a hard time sitting for long but with this comfortable chair I would be able to sit longer without the pain running down my leg. My chair is so worn out that I had to screw a piece of wood to the side to hold it together, no joke.

So I would really appreciate it if you ask why I don't get my own - it is because we live on disability and three of my adult children have moved home and 1 grandchild due to hard economic times. Thank for your consideration and have a great day.

I moved from SoCal in February to a small town in West Texas to be with my childhood love. Thankfully I was going to be able to continue working for the same company from home. It took nearly 3 months to get all the particulars together to begin work. We got married in Vegas last month, 07/08/09 to be exact, so with all of that we got behind on our bills.

Currently I am using one of my new husband's wheelchairs as my desk chair. He is retired military that was shot in a training excercise and isn't eligible for combat pay although he is now an amputee. On the lighter side where else can you custom design a ecofriendly, sleek and purple chair? Thanks for the opportunity to enter this contest.

I use a chair at home for all table work, including eating, writings, computer, balancing check book, paying bills & many other boring things. But, a rolling chair is so much more comfortable as long as it is wide enough for my "large" rear. Got any of those? Or, any without arms to add room? I have medical conditions that only allow a short time with my legs down so absolutely need a comfortable chair. If you have one of those, especially in a green color that would fit my needs, please pick me!!

Why do I need a new Cobi chair? My current "sofa" on wheels just isn't cutting it. At some point in the day a caster always slips off which usually leads to a second one slipping off propelling me onto the desk or floor. It's my second chair in 18 years of business and has served me well but it's time has passed. And most of my clients are architects and designers who are expecting a little more style then my current seat-sled. Even my staff doesn't take me seriously as I try to dictate words of wisdom from the big blue blob. And any replacement has to be eco-friendly!

I work at a small non-profit camp in western North Carolina. But my role requires me to be at my desk consistently. What happens with small non-profits, is that people think they are being generous by donating their old junk to the camp. So we have about 7 office chairs that are worthless for anything except keeping you in the sitting position.

In the past 4 years with this position at the camp, I've developed a back problem from having to be hunched over a desk, and I know it is related to my posture. I do heavy stretching to help my problem and have gotten a larger external monitor so as not to be hunched over my laptop. However, a new chair would be expensive. If what cobi says is true about your chairs, it would serve my health very well. And the bonus is the eco-friendly for a guy who is writing this in my hammock in the woods of my deck wearing a windmills t-shirt.

Thanks for considering me. It'd be a blessing!

I should win a Cobi because I play the theremin in new and innovative ways. I now require a new and innovative Cobi Chair for contemplation, dreaming, and breathing. Aether is the substance of listening and Cobi is the substance of comfort and productivity.

One day while rehearsing theremin in Illinois I noticed three rabbits that were attracted by my playing. They gathered at my patio window to listen. One of them spoke up, "Why do you not have a Cobi Chair?" I responded, "You are right, I need a Cobi Chair. I have 3 minutes to use Cobi Smart Designer." The rabbits spoke in unison, tilted their heads to the side and smiled, "Coby fits," and the three of them hopped away into the well designed landscape ahead of them.

Smart rabbits. Smart Furniture.

I should win a Cobi chair because I'm a leader on on campus who must walk the walk. As the Coordinator of Volunteer at Emory (www.volunteer.emory.edu) I work collaboratively with groups of Emory students, staff, faculty & alumni to organize meaningful volunteer service and social justice efforts. A number of these efforts relate to environmental sustainability & stewardship. Having a Cobi would reinforce the message that caring for our environment is a lifestyle choice that reaches into a wide variety of areas. Plus, the Cobi design is hot & it might garner some more customers for y''all.

Howdy All, My fiance needs your help. He works 65-70 hour work weeks, from home. His hands and wrist... are tired. Cobi, please help us! I would love for him to be able to give me massages for the years to come. I need a seat I can sit in for most of the day, without regretting it. Otherwise, I am no fun! The desk and chair I have, are not the right size for eachother. It doesn't help that I''m 5' 3". Most chairs are not made to adjust to your center of gravity, which is what makes Cobi so awesome to me.

The chair is about 8 years old and was given to me by a much larger than me individual. I had to take off the arm rests as the chair wouldn't fit properly with them. Posture is definitely not assisted by this chair. I need ergonomics and well, some style.. to help have a better focus and comfort. The flex of the top of the chair, would allow me to chat while we're sharing design concepts or when my fiance likes to hold on to the chair. A chair that adjusted to my gravity, rather than others... would be amazing as well.

Cobi would also be wonderful, as though I am short, I have really long legs. So I need to be able to sit comfortably oriented with my feet and legs. Thank you for helping me to have an ergonomic dream.... now, back to work.

We'll start with me. Hi, I'm a kid heading to college, my main work is as a graphic designer. Because of that I do most of my work on the computer.

I have a laptop so it's easy to do it anywhere but the problem is, there are no good chairs anywhere. Most of the time I end up sitting on a big couch that, while comfy, doesn't work great as a work space, or in one of those dome/disc chairs that doesn't reach up to any table, in which you can't lean forward, and you can't move your arms.

The only other chairs available to me are metal folding chairs that tend to be used as tables. The best set up for me would be to have a desk and a chair. I have a desk, but the chair seems to be made for someone 6 feet tall or more and it kills my back even more that one of the dome chairs. More importantly this chair has seemingly two settings, straight-back-with-no-give, or recline-so-far-you-can't-reach-the-desk. It's not the most fun I've had with a chair.

From what I hear these chairs are really built for sitting in. I'd love to be able to do my work in a chair that is comfortable, and can reach a desk so that my lap doesn't have to be my desk.

I work for BodyMind Nutrition. The environment is great except for one thing - the stool that I have to sit on. It's a horrible slab of wood that is completely unadjustable. Here we are helping people to better their health, and here I am scrunched up on a slab of wood, looking anything but ergonomic! We are a small company on a tight budget and a FREE chair...which I would promote to anyone that would listen...would be an absolute dream come true!

I believe that I should win a Cobi because of 3 main reasons. Please read them all before judging me.

1. I believe in the power of good design. My undergraduate education at the Parsons School of Design involved a heavy aspect of responsible (full life cycle design analysis) design and elegant design. Steelcase has always been an example in our course work, and I believe in the power of an elegant design solution. I think this chair embodies both the cradle-to-cradle aspect of a product design (full life cycle responsible design) while maintaining the need for a great solution for people who sit for long periods of time (like me).

2. I am moving into a new apartment to start a new masters program in Climate Change Research at Columbia, and don''t have a good chair. How ever will I be able to sit and do my work? Research, reading, analysis, typing.. my life will be a lot of sitting at my desk, and right now I am using a small, dinky folding chair. This is not the way to sit and work, especially when i will be entering a new masters program. I need to be equipped with the proper tools to satisfy the ergonomic needs of my buttocks, legs, and back to better achieve more in my new gradute studies.

3. On the Eco side, I have given up a lucrative design career in New York to study climate science. I believe in the power of sustainable design. I run a design competition for undergraduate design students called "The Sustainable Design Review" started as the "Parsons Sustainable Design Review" You can Gooogle that + my name "Rishi Desai" and read all about it. I ask designers (students) to define sustainability and exemplify it in a project proposal. Not only that, but I recently gave up my Design Director position at a company in Soho to study climate change full time at Columbia. I have dedicated myself to this endeavour, and accept the pay cuts as I enter the non profit world. I believe that it is for the better. I am considering pursuing a PhD at Columbia in Sustainable Development. An even more better reason why I need a good chair to support me through these studies.. one that embodies my personal philosophies (cradle-to-cradle methodologies in sustainable design).

Thank you for your considerations.

My material strategy is rather simple: Don't buy or acquire anything that is not eco-friendly. By which I mean it will last a long time, contribute to my health and ideally is made of environmentally friendly materials. The Cobi Chair fulfills all of these precepts.

However, I recently graduated from college, and have a lot of furniture to acquire. I'm borrowing a number of things from friends who don't need them, and that includes the chair I use at my desk and sewing table. Outside of work I spend almost all of my time writing or sewing. In a couple of months, however, I will have to return the chair I have, and that will leave me with only a few options for a new chair.

Unfortunately, it's hard to justify using several months of disposable income on a Cobi Chair, and so it seems likely that when I have to replace my chair, it will be with a used chair (thus serving the eco-friendly materials precept), which I will, as a result of the long-lasting precept, be unlikely to replace for a number of years. The lacking element in the equation is my health, and that's why I believe I deserve Cobi, because I don't want to sacrifice my health, and I don't think anyone else wants me to either.

Life on earth is sustainable because it constantly adapts and evolves in order to create conditions conducive to life. I spend my days in front of a computer screen, absorbing what science has discovered about living systems. The rest of my time is spent trying to communicate and help design products and services that serve people as well as enable humanity to ''fit in'' on planet Earth.

The Cobi chair fits the very nature of evolutionary design. A chair that promotes movement is the best way I know to allow the constant evolution and change of posture to handle every situation with grace. When looking to nature for inspiration on seating it becomes apparent that the most comfortable solution is the solution that moves. The ability of the Cobi char to allow multiple postures would permit me to continue my work because the chair itself would create the conditions conducive to my life.

Thank you for the Cobi chair, and the chance to win an evolutionary design!

Wow. I have found the answer to my 15 year dilemma. The Cobi is for me. My husband has begged me to give up my lovely Eames DAX Chair With Arms that we have been using as our home office chair since our honeymoon days. I have refused on the principle of style. Who wants one of those large ugly black monstrosities in their house? I surely don't and have been more than willing to give up good ergonomics to avoid it.

I see marital bliss in the Cobi chair. Design for me and comfort for him. What fun I will have with 13 color options and features galore. I can just imagine what more fun we will have when hubby isn't grump with a sore back because of our new Cobi. Ahhhh. Bliss.

I spend many, many long hours at the computer desk each day. Computers are not only my job, but they're my hobby, and I've had many computer chairs that are just plain bad. Over the years my posture has definitely suffered, and I've just never found that one chair that seemed to take care of all my needs.

The Cobi appears to be an elegant blend of just about everything. In being eco-friendly, I don't have to worry about it spending forever to decompose in a landfill should I wear it out with my seemingly aerobic sitting. Its features look to be just what I need, continuously adjusting to my sitting position each time I move around. I have restless leg syndrome and sometimes get poor circulation in my legs if the chir doesn't fit me in just the right place, and I think this chair would really fit the bill.

I can''t even tell you how many chairs I've gone through in the past year or two. Maybe 10? They either wear out at the drop of a hat, or they're so unbearably uncomfortable I don't know how they ever got put on the production line. The Cobi looks to be well-designed, so that it won''t be like one of the many chairs I''ve had where the pneumatic lifter just... falls. You know, sitting there, typing away, and WOOSH! You drop a few inches all at once. Or maybe the ones where you happen to lean back, and they're not designed to accommodate leaning as far as they allow, and you tumble over backwards.

Yeah, I've done that more than once. Not only is it embarrassing, but it's painful! Help me break this cycle! Give me a Cobi, please! :)

About a year ago, I helped start an energy consulting company which meant that all day long I was stuck staring at my computer. I am no small guy, 6'4", and a standard chair just doesn't cut it for me. I move around in the chair as if I am exercising which means after working long nights my body is aching from my neck to my feet. Who knew helping the environment could be so painful?

For past two months I've been looking at chair designs and what type I should set my sights on. Cobi is my new target. I don't know much about the product, outside of it's features and maybe I saw it in metropolis, but if it has Cradle to Cradle approval that is great with me.

Hello! Ive been drooling over your chairs and im so excited that I could win one!

I'm currently One of three Soil Science students here at NMSU (New Mexico State) and I'm studying to become a soil conversationalist. It's hard work and i spend many hours hunched over my desk working on chemistry homework.

My current chair is actually a foot stool I found on the street. It's wooden and has three legs, and one 2x4 that I cut down and nailed into place to replace the fourth leg. While I do love my little Frankenstein its hardly comfortable or even healthy. To make matters worse my field work involves lots of (you guessed it) digging holes- in 104° heat no less.

As you can imagine my posture has become horrible in just 2 short years, and I'm only half way through school! I think that Cobi and I would make a great team and a comfortable place to sit would make my job of literally saving the earth way more endureable. please consider me for one of your lovely chairs. They are so beautiful and I promise I will take good care of it for many years to come. I may even sing to it. Also My new kitten Etta would really enjoy a nice place to nap while I'm in classes. I look forward to willing the Cobi to many generations to come.

Wow, perfect timing! I currently telecommute about 50% of the time, and as of Friday Aug 28th I will be officially laid off from my company - as will our entire programming department! This is an interesting quandary, because they want to hire us all back as "contractors"... I foresee many more long hours spent at my home office than before while scouring the web and exhausting my contacts for any possible contract work. Having a perfect chair, the Cobi, to complement the long seat time will definitely help improve my stamina - I'll need it in this economy!

My current chair is a overstuffed office chair I bought in College from Best Buy in 2001 that''s more a cat bed now than an office chair. With possible clients coming to my home, having a Cobi chair will add a much needed "image" of professionalism. Everyone likes new things and a soothing chair to rest my bum on for hours on end will be a much needed confidence boost for me. Thanks Smart Furniture for offering the Cobi, a perfect home office chair for the budding entrepreneur! (you can verify my soon to be unemployment from Engineered Environments in Alameda CA.)

I am someone who, as a designer, could be saving the world. OK, perhaps I exaggerate but not a lot. I could make many things work better, more efficiently or just be more fun while working better and being more efficient. The problem is, after a day of design at work for those that pay the bills, I have a hard time sitting down at the computer again in the evening to do the work that should be done.

A Cobi chair would accommodate my long torso and support my back for a few more hours, and those few more hours could make many more people in the world more comfortable.

429. Cliff + Cobi: A Perfect Marriage?  |  Cliff B.
I'm a wedding photographer, and due to the ubiquitous presence of digital capture these days, I find myself spending more and more time seated at my computer than I do behind my camera. I currently have a sleek, but unrelentingly hard stool that I purchased when we lived in Paris. I can still feel the sideways glances I got when carried the stool still in the box from the store on the Metro to get it home.

While minimalist, and decent to look at, comfort is not it's strong suit, and it's long overdue that I step up and join forces with a big boy chair like the Cobi to keep me healthy during my extended periods of desk jockeying. In addition to the health benefits, I love the simple lines of the Cobi, the fact that it's available in a stool version to match my tall desk, the environmentally sound construction, and that I can even get it in my business colors white and orange! We''re going to be moving into a new loft in a month or so, leaving our tiny SF apartment, and we'll finally get to buy all the furniture we've dreamed about but never had the room for. The perfect time for the Cobi to enter our lives.

An added bonus of the new space will be that I can use it to meet with potential clients, and the Cobi will certainly class up my workspace! I think Homer Simpson said it best, as he often does, and I won't attempt to improve upon it: "Marge, there's an empty spot I've always had inside me. I tried to fill it with family, religion, community service, but those were dead ends! I think this chair is the answer." If that doesn't seal the deal I'll leave you with a Haiku: My stool is not cool. Cobi won't easily ryhme. I want mine orange.

Well I'm entering my senior year of college majoring in architecture at LA Tech, and have a studio space to fill. And what better way to break in the new school year than with a brand new chair, where I'll spend countless hours on while working on school projects late into the night. On top of that it would be great to have chair that comes from a manufacturer who is concerned with the environmental impact of its products!

P.S. I really don't want to have to pick up the 20 dollar KLIPINGDORPH chair from IKEA.

I feel that I would make a great Cobi owner for three reasons: 1) I will love it like it is my own, 2) I ride my bike to work in treacherous Los Angeles, which often leaves me with a sore posterior, and 3) As an under-valued architect, I have always worked in up-and-coming offices which have always resorted to unfortunately budget-conscious office furniture. It will make an enormous difference in my daily life, and I will be able to encourage others to put their comfort and ecological concerns first.

I'd like to win a Cobi chair because I feel like the green hype has bloated itself to the point where sustainability-oriented design is starting to look and feel even more excessive than the alternatives (see any ''green'' project in Dubai, etc.). Sitting in a chair that Cobi claims is a unique combination of sustainability and comfort, and really feeling that there is a difference (no matter how ineffable), would certainly be a very compelling and tangible way to get me back on the green wagon.

Also, my current chair is literally an old barrel, and I refuse to drop 800 dollars on an Aeron...

I have had back problems since 15 years of age, leading to lost time at school and work, inability to play sports, and ultimately back surgery that improved - but did not resolve - the issue. The #1 contributor to my back pain? Time spent sitting at my desk on the computer. Unfortunately, my time at the computer has increased dramatically recently, as I research products and appliances tpo be used in the construction of my LEED-platinum certified residence. I have contemplated getting a new office chair to help my back for about 2 years but, with the construction of my new eco-friendly house, I simply do not have the means to do so. I speak green all the time, and am now putting my money where my mouth is.

It would be great to get my back into the green, as well . . . without going into the red . . . or spending any greenbacks.

I'm desperate. I'm a product designer working from a home office running my newly-formed design consultancy from a dodgy Ikea chair. It's uncomfortable, ugly and decidedly environmentally unfriendly. It has 2 broken casters that fall out periodically and leave me lurching to one side, balancing on one bum cheek whilst trying to remain calm talking to a client on the phone. In short. it's an embarrassment for someone in my line of work. Not too mention I've just passed 40 and long hours hunched in the Ikea beast leaves my post-football-career body locked in agony.

I need the flexing ability of the Cobi chair, I need the adjustment, I need the a balancing mechanism, I need a break! On the other hand the Cobi chair is a design triumph, with beautifully finished details and serious design cred. Given that I am presenting myself as an eco-conscious product designer, the Cradle to Cradle Silver product certification will give me a warm feeling inside. I will actually be proud to show clients into my office rather than cringing as I wander over to my "throne". I can even design my own. We designers like that :)

The best bit is that the Cobi chair will feel right at home here given my son's name.... Koby!

My husband, Alex, is an excellent 3D designer in a game company of Shanghai , China. With high enthusiasm to his job, Alex is very absorbed in his day work. Usually, he drags two exhausted legs home in the evening, saying I need a comfortable chair. However, he always plays a nominal eloquent speaker while I am a good listener. Who knows how many times I stopped in front of store window to gaze at these chairs!

At last, I was often persuaded by this speaker owning to our merger income (compared with highly-cost living in Shanghai this metropolis). Fortunately, in June 2009, we bought a second-hand apartment in a pay-by-installment fashion after years hard work and reasonable living calculation.

These days, we both are busing with home decoration. It''s time to buy a affordable , comfortable chair for Alex. If I am lucky enough, I hope to get one Cobi chair from Smart Furniture. I have been working for the last thirty-five years with adults with major mental illnesses. My work has been a flurry of traipsing all over our five-story Clubhouse, up to our farm in High Point New Jersey, all over NYC, and occasionally you'll even find me sitting in a chair.

My sits are brief; I have herniated discs in my cervical and lumbar spine so just can't sit too long. When I am home I am an artist making paintings, digitally derived work, and writing. My home chair is twelve years old and acts every year of it. You''ll often find me standing at my work table, elbows supporting my torso on the desk, legs making a nice triangle, shaking my bum trying to release the pain in my back. It is a challenge to accomplish my work this way!

In a half year I will be leaving my amazing job to focus on art-making and developing Clubhouse model of mental health supports around the world from my computer. I need a chair that will support me through many hours creating my new life. From what I've read the Cobi is the chair that will handle the job. The twist is, while I bring this new life into the real world, I'm going to be on a seriously tight budget.

Just how likely am I to head to Smart Furniture for my chair ... well, with your help I'll designing my chair soon!

Well for starters, I am in the design field and want to promote good design. Secondly, I am a recent college graduate (LSU) and just relocated from Houston, Tx for a job in NYC. My new desk chair (which I sit in 9 hours a day) renders me posture-less. I can hardly do anything in my chair before the back gives out and goes into full reclining mode. Wining a new eco friendly office chair would be amazing and add to my productivity so I can pass along my drive and takent in design to others until I am able to give away something of my own creation to others.

I LOVE these chairs! I''m a graphic designer and sit at my computer all day long. My current chair is ugly and uncomfortable. I really appreciate good design and these Cobi chairs are so well designed! Love the colors.

My colleagues and I in the Design Department here at Syracuse University use a strictly sustainable approach when teaching design to the next generation of Interior and Industrial design. We are in the process of setting up the first academic shop with a sustainable mission in the United States, including working toward installing a wind farm on the roof of the building and using hydroelectric power to augment our power usage in the shop. A sustainably produced office chair for our Shop Technician would complete the package nicely!

I am currently working from a 4'x 5' space in my living room... this "office" of mine is what is supporting me thus far. But my chair blows, my back and shoulder are tired, I can't concentrate and worst of all my butt gets ridiculously sweaty! HELP! PLEASE! I can only go through so many boxers without having to do laundry again, save me from my butt sweat hell!

I am an architecture student at University of Miami and i spend many hours drafting in the studio. The stools that the school provides are awfully hard and uncomfortable, and a Cobi chair would be much more comfortable. I believe that if I had a Cobi chair, I would be able to work much more efficiently.

I have had back problems for approx. 10 years now. Frequent visits to the Chiropractor help me get better whenever my back bothers me which is at least once a month. I work behind a desk all day and the chair I currently have, in spite of having an additional back support cushion like thingy is not comfortable. I really think that one of your chairs would help me have fewer back problems and improve my posture and overall wellbeing which is a great testimonial to the effectiveness of your product. Plus I'll be forever grateful.

My (cheap) husband REFUSES to buy a new office chair! The one we have now was purchased used at a garage sale. He sits at his desk about 5-6 hours a day, & besides loving your design, we need something that is body friendly & trendy. Please help me & win me a chair!!!
