 Chilewich was founded by Sandy Chilewich in 1997. Sandy, a New York based designer, has long had a passion for experimenting with new materials as mediums for her work. Design enthusiasts have reason to applaud her outside-the-box approach, as it has led to a range of colorful, durable products that are as beautiful as they are functional. The end result is Chilewich- a design firm with home decor accessories made almost exclusively in the U.S. that are sold around the world. In her search for new materials that exhibited design potential in the late 90s, Chilewich stumbled upon woven vinyl and fell in love with what she believed was a completely underutilized textile. ââ?¬Å?The durability of this extruded yarn, the intrinsic sheen of the material, its tremendous design versatility, and the fact that it is washable inspired me then and continues to inspire me today," says Chilewich. Hence the launch, in 2000, of Chilewichââ?¬â?¢s current distinctive product line of vinyl textiles. Chilewich went on to design and manufacture a number of successful applications for her growing collection of textiles. Her tablemats and floormats can be seen in homes and better restaurants around the world. Chilewich bags, totes and cosmetic bags are both modern and functional, perfect for travel and everyday use.
