They would pitch forward and down not holding even the smallest amount of towels. I was very disappointed. Installation is not difficult - did it myself (52 year old female). The shelf bracket conveniently provides an easy positioning and hole marking template.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: One of the two shelves arrived with paint runs on the front edge. Purchased this shelf for my cookbooks (all together they weigh 20 lbs, 66% of the maximum weight rating). The design looks good, but the brackets that slide inside the shelf are quite flimsy and the included screws are very cheap (we only sheared one off inside the stud before my husband went to get different screws). It hold the books, but I am careful when I take one off and replace it. Would recommend only for light weight objects, even though it says it can hold 30 lbs.
The one plus of the purchase is that the customer service is fantastic - just wish the shelf was as high quality.

This was purchased to suspend the cable set top box and surround sound receiver below a LED in my bedroom. The shelf was easy to mount and very sturdy. I was a bit disappointed with a significant chip on it. I bought two of these. One was perfect and the other one had a bracket that was uneven and caused shelf to point upward and not straight. After numerous attempts ( and too many holes in the wall, we finally figured out how to make it work. This is the 2 foot shelf. We have purchased 4 of these, as well as a 3 footer. The fastening hardware into sheetrock on the 2 foot shelves is not adequate. You should either screw into the studs or buy better sheetrock fasteners before you start, or you will be disappointed. Other than that, these are easy to assemble strong shelves and hopefully will last.

The installation process is a bit difficult because the metal bracket is often not straight, and once installed on the wall, it doesn't sit level - the front is always higher than the back. This might be OK once you put things on it.
It's really hard to line up two of these next to each other so I recommend not attempting it.
Otherwise, they look sleek and are affordable.

Read the reviews and item description. I don't believe it is mentioned that the shelf frame - the hardware part that the white shelf slips over- is angled. we put it on the wall and it angled up, looked horrible. I guess heavy items, really heavy items, could weigh it down to look normal, but hadn't planned on placing real heavy items on it. My husband had to bend the frame to make it work for us, took forever to get it up and looking good. Luckily my husband was handy or I would had returned it, after putting major holes in my walls....

I was thrilled to find the floating shelf with the exact dementions I wanted. However, the wall anchors included were faulty, leaving six large holes in my wall. I bought six shelves and two were not properly manufactured. Of the two replaced shelves sent by customer service, one had a bent bracket. The shelves had problems in their manufacturing. The metal brackets were sometimes bent. the holes that the backet slides into sometimes were not drilled accurately so that the shelf had to be forced into them; as a result, I was not able to srew in the screws that hold the shelves to the brackets.

Customer service was great. I called with the problems which included damage from shipping and improper manufucturing. They relplaced them without question. I received the replacements within 5 days.

It is several inches shorter than the shelf so altering it as you outlined is possible. But as you can imagine, due to liability, we cannot recommend it.

Can I leave a small gap between the back of the shelve and the wall mount? I would like to have a gap just wide enough to pass HDMI cables and power cords up behind the shelves to my cable box, DVD player, and etc.. I see the gap being about 1/4", certainly no larger than 3/8". I notice there are two set screws on each shelve that lock it to the mounting rods coming off the mounting bracket. Can these set screws lock any where along the mounting rods?

Not unless you have the means to drill holes into the steel bracket. There are at least 6 locations to put screws into. You should be able to hit a stud or two.

It would depend on the depth of your cable box and DVD player. This shelf is 10" deep. What are the depth of your components? If they are deeper than 10" possibly the Landa shelf (which comes in a 12" depth but looks identical to the Floating Wall Shelf) would be your best solution.
