Frilly Chair by Kartell Set of 2 designed by Patricia Urquiola
The entire surface covered by a wavy, shimmering visual effect, Frilly gives off a light, sensual. This transparent polycarbonate creation by Patricia Urquiola has an ergonomic design with an industrial finish. The Kartell Frilly Chair is available in eight different finishes and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
A gifted Spanish architect and designer, Patricia Urquiola now lives and works in Milan. Though from a sociocultural point of view, she is very attached to the Spanish tradition, her studies influenced her to such an extent that she became of the most important figures of modern Italian design. She takes into consideration the impact that her products have on the vast public. She focuses on the design of exchangeable units without using modular elements, and successfully creates environments designed to encourage positive feelings and company.
There is very little that Patricia Urquiola has not done in the field of design. From interiors to furniture to wallpaper, she has gifted the design world with her innovative thoughts and ideas. To say her work is experimental with both form and material doesnâ??t do justice to the imagination, the creative flair and the enduring practicality that characterizes her designs. Both she and her products have been celebrated and received many esteemed awards, including being selected for the Italian Design 2001 exhibition and for International Design Yearbook 1999 and 2001. At the 2006 Design Awards, she was crowned the Furniture Designer of the Year. Her recent work includes projects for De Padova, Moroso, B&B Italia, Kartell, and others.
Contrary to the common idea, products in plastic materials are highly ecological for the reason that they can be recycled (with the exception of polyurethane, little used in Kartell furniture). Thus, Kartell products can be easily recycled. In order to simplify the recycling process, the various components of Kartell products can be easily separated and reduced to elements made of one single material. Moreover, the plastic parts of each product carry, clearly printed, an identification mark to determine the correct classification of the different kinds of plastic and their effective recycling.
Creativity and technology, glamour and functionality, quality and innovation: a combination of extraordinary factors together with a strategic vision of distribution has contributed to the lasting success of Kartell. By cultural and entrepreneurial choice, since its origins in 1949 the Italian manufacturer has chosen to characterize itself as the market leader in the production of designers articles which use technology and plastic materials. This choice requires a great understanding of materials and transformation technology. A leader in furniture design, Kartell addresses an international audience with a collection unique in originality, variety, size, and range.
