The Girard Table is asymmetrical and odd, but it was made to be useful and attractive, not pretentious and cold. The Girard Table is shaped like a very flat V, with a straight edge across the front. The legs of the Girard Table are long and thin, and designed not to get in the way of living and working.

Alexander Girard is regarded as one of the most talented designers in American textiles. Girard studied in Rome at the Royal School of Architecture and was hired in 1952 by Herman Miller to lead their textile division. In addition to his fabrics and furniture collections for Herman Miller, Girard expanded his portfolio across several different mediums. He designed the La Fonda Del Sol restaurant from the menus to the tiles on the walls and floor, and Girard helped re-brand Braniff International Airways.
Founded in 1938, Knoll has nurtured many of the most inspiring and iconic furniture designs of the last century. Materials: The Girard Table features a top made of baltic birch core with either plain slice bookmatch maple, cherry, or ebonized veneer. The legs are cold-rolled steel tubes in a black powder coat.
