CH29 Sawbuck Chair
from Carl Hansen & Son
designed by Hans Wegner
Designed by Hans Wegner in 1952, the Sawbuck chair's name refers to its uniquely shaped back, which tips its hat to the lumbering tools that made its solid wood construction possible. It embodies his desire to create simple objects with form and function combined. Details such as the joint between the front and back legs and the sculpted, comfortably curved back set it apart, and the seat front is wider to supply an even more comfortable sitting position. Wonderfully suited for use as a dining chair, the Sawbuck Chair is beautiful enough to enhance any room as a side chair.
The Sawbuck Chair's frame is made of solid ash, beech, or oak. To enhance the chair's comfort, Wegner added an upholstered seat cushion - and that's where it gets really fun. You can choose from a plethora of fabric and leather colors to perfectly suit your taste.

About The Manufacturer
One of the prime influences in Danish Modern design during its formative years, Hans Wegner first began to design furniture after attending the Carpenters' Guild Furniture Exhibits in Copenhagen, Denmark. Shortly after completing his studies at what is now The Danish Design School, he was tasked by Arne Jacobsen with designing all the furniture of his Arhus City Hall. After working with Jacobsen for a short time, he began designing furniture for the Carl Hansen & Son furniture company in 1949. From that partnership came classics such as the Wishbone Chair, Elbow Chair, Shell Chair, and Wing Chair. Still as fresh now as they were then, these enduring pieces of modern furniture bear testimony to Wegner's craftsmanship and inspiration.
