Hat Trick Chair by Knoll
designed by Frank Gehry
Legendary Architect Frank Gehry was commissioned by Knoll in 1989 to create a line of furniture in his distinctive idiom. After three years of work, the resulting chairs, including the Hat Trick Chair, were displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Hat Trick designs were inspired by apple crates and the names byhockey terms, and the result is as comfortable and exhilirating as such a meeting of influences could hope.
Constructed of laminated maple, and fashioned mostly with ribbon-like waving strips of wood, the chairs break with convention but embrace beauty and innovation.Frank Gehry has made his name creating some of the most incredible buildings in America, but his furniture is just as exciting. He has been honored with gold medals from the Royal Institute of British Architects and the American Institute of Architects. Gehry's designs are often compared more closely to sculpture than architecture.

|Frank Gehry is one of the most famous architects in the world, and in all of history. His buildings are stunning, overwhelming works of sculpture that have taken simple and cheap materials like limestone, sheet metal and chain-link and created some of the most awe-inspiring spaces in the world. He also designs furniture. A Canadian and a hockey fan, he is well known for his hockey-themed furniture: The Face Off Cafe Table, the Cross Checking Chair, etc. Gehry's chairs and tables are as eccentric and surprising, and as beautiful, as his buildings.|
