Eames Aluminum Management Chair Independent Overall Rating: 8 of 10      [ how this works ]
8 out of 10 Stars

Price Range: $1,839.00 to $3,099.00

PROS:
Classic looks, classic designers, and comfort-pockets.

CONS:
Not a chair built for high performance, or with modern ergonomics in mind.

OVERALL RATING:
As a piece of classic design, this chair might be a 10. But as a participant in the modern marketplace, it loses a few points for its lack or ergonomic and performance features. This is still a remarkable chair with a remarkable pedigree, and a great addition to nearly any office.

SECOND OPINION
I agree that the chair isn’t perfect for working ten hour days, but it is comfortable and very pretty.

PRODUCT REVIEW

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The Eames Management Chair is a classic piece of modern design that still finds plenty of utility in the modern office. Because it's so beautiful, so tasteful, and so iconic it has remained a vital part of many offices, and a perfect companion piece to many executive desks and suites.

The main materials used in the chair are pristine, shined aluminum and a soft, flexible leather material. The material of the chair stretches over the seat and seat back and attaches to the aluminum supports on either side of the chair. The comfort pocket that is then created was a new kind of sitting solution when these chairs were first debuted, and it's still popular today (because, of course, it is still comfortable today).

The Eames Management Chair is simple and elegant - it's all business, with no bells and whistles. It carries with it the enormous cachet of the Eames name and over half a century of history in the countries most prestigious homes and offices.
THE 'X' FACTOR
Because this product was designed by Charles and Ray Eames, it has a bit of undeniable cachet that comes with their names and work.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The Eames Managment Chair is a classic, and as long as you don't expect it to overwhelm the modern ergonomics and performance enhancers present in high end chairs, it's going to meet every expectation of a great office chair.

PRODUCT RATINGS

COMFORT / ERGONOMICS: 7 of 10
7 out of 10 Stars
Ergonomically, the main benefit of this chair is that it's comfortable. That may seem facile, but there aren't any of the contemporary concessions to lumbar support and neck support extant in the classic Eames Management Chair. The concession is to comfort and that alone. To that end, the chair succeeds. The comfort pockets of the seat and seat back, which are elastic, soft, and supple, do their job with aplomb. The leather material of the chair is itself very fine and very comforting in contact with a seated body. The chairs have looks to spare, but that’s not at all the whole story - they’re also a comfy place to spend the day in.
DESIGN: 8 of 10
8 out of 10 Stars
Charles and Ray Eames are possible the most famous and the most critically lauded design team in history. Certainly among furniture makers in America they had and have no real peer. They worked tirelessly, turning out innumerable brilliant designs for the home and office, and the Eames Management Chair is one of their proudest accomplishments. Constructed with a minimum of material, and with the modern, contemporary elements of leather and aluminum, they produced a classic style with a contemporary twist on comfort. The comfort pockets were original at the time, and they're still very comfortable today.
STYLE: 9 of 10
9 out of 10 Stars
The Eames Management Chair has few peers when it comes to this category. Among office and executive chairs, it's one of the most elegant, simple, beautiful chairs you can buy. Other chairs will offer higher performance rankings, better or more advanced ergonomics, and more material (usually stuffing). But they won't offer the classic look of this chair, nor will they have the timeless cachet of the Eames name affixed to their own.
QUALITY / CRAFTSMANSHIP / PEDIGREE: 10 of 10
10 out of 10 Stars
Herman Miller is one the most respected furniture makers in America, and the same can be said of Charles and Ray Eames in their own time. From design to production to sale, this chair was as high-style and high-quality as it gets.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: 9 of 10
9 out of 10 Stars
The materials in the Eames Management Chair are recyclable. They are also low in weight and amount - and a chair with less material in it is a chair more likely to be properly and easily disposed of. Herman Miller produces the chair, and no furniture company in America can compete with Herman Miller in terms of environmental practices and responsibility.
PERFORMANCE: 6 of 10
6 out of 10 Stars
This is perhaps the only area in which this chair does not excel. There are no special ergonomic features, nor any clever adjustments or features that are going to significantly improve your productivity at work. It's simply a beautiful and comfortable chair.
