Herman Miller Eames Soft Pad Management Chair Fabric Upholstery by Charles and Ray Eames
Like other pieces from the Eames Soft Pad Collection this Management Chair with fabric upholstery features a sleek base and 2"-thick pads that provide unrivaled comfort. Top it off with some stylish fabric upholstery and you have one desirable management chair.
The lightweight aluminum frame of the Soft Pad Management Chair contrasts beautifully with the upholstered cushions and provides strength and support. The 5-star base provides stability and sits upon casters for enhanced mobility. With a tilt-swivel mechanism and adjustable seat height this management chair is as comfortable as it is beautiful. And it's very, very beautiful.
Herman Miller is and has always been one of the most impressive companies in America when it comes to conservation, environmental initiative, and clean, responsible production. With every product they make, new and old, they continue to push toward a greater goal of total energy independence, the elimination of all waste, especially hazardous waste, and the dramatic reduction of their environmental "footprint." Whether they're re-tooling the Eames Soft Pad Chairs to make them easier to recycle or retro-fitting their building with energy efficient light bulbs and machinery, they're always doing their best to keep the environment safe.
At Smart Furniture, we really respect that, and we also feel a kindred spirit. One of the many reasons why choose to partner with Herman Miller and sell their products online is because we see eye to eye on the importance of being an environmentally safe and responsible company. Herman Miller feels the same way about us; they make it a policy never to work with vendors who don't share their commitment, or who don't take every opportunity they have to be safer, cleaner, and less wasteful. Every step of the way, from production of the Eames Soft Pad Chair in Herman Miller factories, to the shipping of the same chair from our warehouse in Chattanooga, TN, our two companies take every step to lessen the environmental impact of designing, building, selling, and shipping a product.
Herman Miller has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to environmental issues. One of the main reasons that remains true today is that they set ambitious goals for themselves, and then commit to actually achieving them. It takes hard work, forward thinking and an almost artistic creativity to make an older product like the Eames Soft Pad Chair as safe as it can be, but all of those are qualities that have never been lacking at Herman Miller.
The most recent, and the most wide-ranging, of their environmental initiatives is called Design for the Environment. Referred to within the company (both in the offices and in the official documents available online) as DfE, the policies laid out within have guided the company inexorably toward a fully functional and totally green operation by the year 2020. The lastest policy, called "Perfect Vision," has laid out some of the most ambitious goals yet. Again, they are all meant to be met by the year 2020. Remember that these goals apply even to classical furniture like the Eames Soft Pad Chairs:
Zero hazardous waste generation
Zero air emissions (VOC)
Zero process water use
100 percent green electrical energy use
Company buildings constructed to a minimum LEED Silver certification
100 percent of sales from DfE-approved products
The first goal, zero landfill, is going to be one of the hardest to achieve. Landfills are real burdens on the environment because they are often filled with plastics and other non-biodegradable materials. Not to mention that they are, of course, immense amounts of garbage trapped under land. The odor, the damage, and the difficulty of breaking down waste all make landfills a headache. But Herman Miller is making progress. Over the last few decades, the amount of landfill generated by Herman Miller has been cut drastically. Every year it shrinks at an exponential rate, and ten years from now, it will be totally gone. That's something to celebrate.
The Eames Soft Pad Chair has been made easy to recycle and therefore not likely to end up in landfill. Most of the chair is recyclable, and needs only to be sifted into component parts when the user has decided it's time to part ways for good (though the chairs are very durable and this day should be well ahead in the future). Even though the chair was debuted four decades ago, the designers and builders are Herman Miller were able to update it without changing the look or anything material to it's classic standing.
As consumers, it's important to make responsible choices when you buy products like office chairs. In the marketplace, dollars are the voters, and every dollar that goes toward a green enterprise is a dollar other manufacturers will try and follow, and earn for themselves. When a company is responsible, it's not just good for the environment; it's good for them, and it's good for the business world as a whole.
The Eames Soft Pad Chair is just one of the many comfortable, stylish, beautiful, and creative products that Herman Miller has to offer. But they all have something in common; you can feel good when you buy them, because they came from one of the more responsible green companies in the business. Smart Furniture and Herman Miller are very proud to bring you the best in green furniture, green shipping, and green business. Buy your chairs today.
The Eames Soft Pad Management Chair takes the side chair up a notch by adding attractive and comfortable polished aluminum arms and a more expansive look. They can do everything that the side chair does, fit into almost every space that chair does, and do it just a little bit better if comfort is a big factor. The addition of arms to the chair takes away slightly form the impressive profile of the side version, and it makes the chair a bit larger, but you gain whole vistas of comfort and support from it. No longer will your arms dangle by your side or have to rest on tables and desks; with the management version, you can simply recline and relax, arms rested at your side. The look of the two chairs is otherwise very similar.
The Eames Soft Pad Management Chair has a long and very comfortable pad on the seat, and smaller more compact pads, equally comfortable, on the seat back. Both of them help to keep the user in good posture and good health, not to mention good comfort. The management version of the chair is definitely meant to be a work chair primarily, although it serves very well in home and can do everything in that arena that the side chair can. Because it's office oriented, this is a chair that helps the user to focus and be more productive by keeping them as comfortable as possible. The pads, the comfort pockets and the rich materials of the leather and aluminum keep the user supported and comfortable, while the armrests keep them from leaning forward or getting tired arms. All of those things contribute to a work state thankfully uninterrupted by much needed stretching sessions, or having to get up and down to shake out numb limbs. This is the same thing today's ultra-high tech ergonomic chairs try to do, and Charles and Ray Eames were doing it in 1969, over 40 years ago.
In the home, this chair can go everywhere that the side chair can, and offer a bit more comfort than the side chair does. Underneath the kitchen or dining room table, in the living room, in the bedroom or behind the desk in a home office set up; all of these places can use some class, some comfort, and some inimitable style, and the Eames Soft Pad Management Chair offers that up in spades. While oriented toward the office, thus the name, this is a chair that's sort of the renaissance man of the group. It can go most anywhere, it can do most anything, and it can do it wall with an edge of classic design and historicity provided by Charles and Ray Eames.
In the office, this chair can literally do anything. Need a boardroom chair? You've got it. Need a meeting room chair? A desk chair? A chair for the waiting room? A chair with rollers or a chair without (you have the option)? You can get the chair you need for all of those tasks when you get yourself an Eames Soft Pad Management Chair. It's beautiful, it's very comfortable, and it can help sustain you through long day and long meetings. It's nearly the perfect office chair, because it's so elastic in function and so unyielding in it's near-perfect design.
The management chair is more specialized than the side chair. It has rollers, and it also has polished aluminum arms, both of which make it more comfortable and very well suited to the environment of the office. The management chair can pretty much do all the tasks you could give the side chair, but on rollers and with armrests; in other words, more comfortably.
Like the side chair, it has two pads on the backing and one larger one on the seat. They're more than adequate to keep you comfortable for long hours at work or shorter hours of relaxation or fellowship at home. The management chair is all in the name; professional, office oriented, and able to do a lot of different things.

Although the mesh was discontinued shortly after its introduction, Herman Miller reintroduced a new mesh material for the Aluminum Group in 2001. Called Cygnus, it is similar to the Aeron chair's Pellicle fabric in its aeration and translucent qualities.
