Herman Miller Enchord Mobile Cabinet designed by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin
At A Glance: Designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin of Industrial Facility created this ultra-adaptable mobile cabinet for the ever-evolving needs of the dynamic home office. While it appears minimalist at first glance, the Enchord Mobile Cabinet has a multitude of features that make it perfect to match with the Enchord Desk. All compartments are accessible from both sides, leaving the cabinet with no defined front or back and making it approachable from any direction - just like the desk.
The Enchord Mobile Cabinet has a clean and streamlined look that makes it comfortable wherever you need it in your home. The cabinet has one small drawer, two file box compartments, and a recessed top compartment to hold the small things that you'll need near your desk.
The work we do at home makes special demands on our space and furniture. Designed specifically to support the wide range of tasks that happen at home, the Enchord desk and mobile cabinet are an affordable, simple, and downright clever solution to getting the homework done, keeping the papers you're using now organized and at hand, and letting you keep your phone and a sandwich nearby while you shop online.
What's To Like: The Enchord Mobile Cabinet has a strong, sturdy frame - and it doesn't look like it! Beauty can be smart and strong, and the mobile cabinet proves it. Being accessible from both sides is a major plus, since the modern office involves a lot more movement than in prior eras.
What's Not to Like: The only difficulty the Enchord Desk presents is its price. It's a beautiful cabinet, no doubt - but we think it could be less pricey.
The Bottom Line: For the clever minimalist in all of us, the Enchord Mobile Cabinet is a breath of fresh air. Its simplicity and utilitarian design speak to its creators' well-thought-out design process and love of unadorned beauty.

Designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin of Industrial Facility, a design office in London, say they set out to provide ''discovered pleasure in flexibility'' when they created the Enchord desk and mobile cabinet. In other words, ''You become more aware of what it can do as you use it,'' says Hecht.
''We were inspired to design a table that was functional and flexible to match people's lives,'' says Colin, ''yet be simple, understated, and elegant - not overengineered or too dramatic - so it fits in multiple environments.''
Dual-level surfaces provided the solution. They automatically create different zones for different materials - for example, the computer on the upper surface and the printer on the lower. Between the levels is space for storage and wire management. All this without complicating the simple design.
Hecht and partner Kim Colin formed London-based Industrial Facility in 2002 to "...explore the junction between industrial design and the world around us." Since then, the design firm has contributed its perspective and intellectual rigor to a wide range of international clients like Yamaha, Epson, and Muji. Everything from kitchen appliances to electronics to interior furnishings has benefited from the ideas of Industrial Facility. In keeping with their legacy of partnering with outstanding problem solvers to help people work more efficiently and effectively, Herman Miller engaged Industrial Facility to contribute to its new line of furnishings for home work environments.

Comments about Herman Miller Enchord Mobile Cabinet:
I use this for active work files, tools, and books or binders, which I move between two primary workspaces.
The biggest problem I have with this unit is that the file box is not functional if you keep it in the unit. The handles for the file box are inaccessible from outside the unit (they are not on the sides with oak paneling), and if you try to pull or lift the file box from the oak paneled side, your hand grabs and lifts the file rod, disturbing the files. If you use the file box independently of the unit, the advantage of a mobile work unit is compromised.
The unit also arrived scratched, but I noticed this only after I rearranged the components.
I rated it as difficult to install, because of the tiny screws used to attach the casters, and the inefficient wrench provided. The wrench also did not fit quite properly, making it still more difficult to use.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
