Nelson X-Leg Table by Herman Miller designed by George Nelson
At A Glance: Finally, a dining table that can double as an office desk. Wait, scratch that: the Nelson X-Leg Table is a great office table that is equally at home in your dining room. Labels aside, the Herman Miller Nelson X-Leg Table is one versatile piece, at home in almost any setting - from dining room to office and everywhere in between. Available in a variety of sizes, this Nelson X-Leg Table features a laminate top that is durable enough to withstand the challenges of daily life.
George Nelson isn't just a name - he's one of the first names designers think about when they're going for superbly balanced, beautiful, and iconic pieces to enhance the decor of their clients.
The crossed legs offer a very sturdy support that won't be loosened over time (like what sometimes happens to post legs).
The delicately formed aluminum legs also serve the aesthetic purpose of making the table look lighter and less intrusive, while adding beauty at the same time.
What's Not to Like: For the money, we'd think that the table would be made of solid wood or have a veneer top. However, Herman Miller makes great furniture that'll last a good long time.
The Bottom Line: The striking Nelson X-Leg Table works great as a dining table or as an office table in a well-appointed modern office - or both!

George Nelson When writing about the course of his remarkable 50-year career, George Nelson described a series of creative "zaps"--moments of out-of-the-blue inspiration "when the solitary individual finds he is connected with a reality he never dreamed of." It was these zaps that would lead to the creation of some of the most original furniture designs of the 20th century- including the Coconut Chair, the Marshmallow Sofa, and the Swag Leg Work Table.
An early zap came in the 1930s, when he was an architectural student in Rome. Before returning home, an idea struck him: He would travel Europe and interview leading modern architects, hoping to get the articles published in the U.S. He succeeded, and in the process introduced the U.S. design community to the European avant-garde. This set in motion a sequence of what he called "lucky" career breaks that were really the inevitable outcomes of his brilliance as a designer, teacher, and author.
