      Yes - this shelf is solid pine wood. You will need to sand and remove the finish, and then you can proceed with painting.

      I can tell you its a black metal 18 5/8" long bracket (at least the 24" version is) and is 3/4" tall with metal prongs that protrude outward and support the shelf. There are 7 holes in the bracket where you can attach it to the wall. Its beefy and slim all at the same time.

      The chunky floating shelf has a hollow core, and can not be cut down to fit smaller sizes.

      If you are mounting the shelves to drywall inside your house, YES, these shelves will hold. You will need to use the wall anchors and hit at least one stud when installing.
