At A Glance: Re-imagining the essence of "chair" from the ground up, the designers took pride in creating the Steelwood Chair. Calling their dining chair "stable and democratic, universal and long-lasting," the Bouroullec brothers combined the warm and deep-rooted qualities of wood with the permanence and strength of steel. We think the resulting dining chair is one of the most beautiful we've seen.
What's To Like:
We love the juxtaposition of materials. Out of two substances that are nearly as different as possible, a cohesive whole is formed.
As a dining chair goes, the Steelwood Chair is easily cleanable, and so easy to look at you just might linger to look at it every time you pass through your dining area.
The Steelwood Chair gives new meaning to the word "refined." This is a very refined chair, with no rough edges or corners. When it comes to fresh, clean design, the brothers Bouroullec are very capable.
What's Not to Like: You could pay much less for a dining chair, and there's no denying that. The choice is between refined quality and cost savings.
The Bottom Line: As a dining chair, side chair, or kitchen table chair, the Magis Steelwood Chair is brilliant. It's simple and refined, with the kind of shape that naturally draws the eye.

Steel frame keeps it all together and adds strength
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, born 1971 and 1976, respectively, in Quimper, France, studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Cergy-Pontoise. Ronan began independent design work immediately after completing his studies, while his brother, who was still in school, assisted him. Since 1999 both brothers have worked together as joint partners in their own design firm. Their work ranges from small utilitarian objects to architectural projects. In addition to the design of domestic and office furniture, vases, porcelain dishware, jewelry and diverse home accessories, a primary focus of their work is the design and organization of interior space. Their work for Magis includes the Steelwood chair, table, stool, and storage system.
