Tour 120-Degree Desk by Steelcase
designed by Kirt Martin
At A Glance:
The Tour 120-Degree Desk was designed by Steelcase to be a unique and simple desk. The desk allows a wide range of applications, creative space planning flexibility, and a modern, timeless aesthetic. This 120 degree desk features a 1-1/8" low-pressure laminate worksurface with matching edge banding, a black grommet for easy wire and cable management, stylish platinum post legs, and simple, clean lines that match virtually any type of decor.
What's To Like:
It's all in the name - angles are cool. The best things about this desk are its expansive wings and usefully attractive 120-degree angle. It holds a lot of stuff and avoids the stale same-old, same-old look of rectangular desks.
What's Not to Like:
Let's see ... the Tour Desk's legs will be difficult to attach if you don't have a drill. You can just use a screwdriver, if you have some serious oomph, but it'll be a task. (Note: we can't believe spellcheck recognized "oomph" as a word.)
The Bottom Line:
With optional leg and monitor arm choices, a variety of laminates, and sturdy construction, the Tour 120-Degree Desk is a good option for creative-thinking offices, both home and workplace.
- Height (post legs): 27.325"
- Height (adjustable post legs): 27.325" - 44"
- Width: 83.16"
- Depth: 30.5"
- Low-pressure laminate worksurface
- Adjustable glides to keep things level
- Platinum-painted fixed-height or adjustable-height steel legs
- Fits nicely into any workplace or home office
- Uncluttered profile works with both traditional and contemporary interiors
Pair with the M2 Monitor Arm
One of the great things about the Tour Desk is that it acts as a forum for ergonomic tools and accessories that attach to the desk itself. Smart Furniture offers a number of monitor arms, but we recommend the M2 Monitor Arm by Humanscale due to its flexibility, low profile, ease of installation, and reach.
When you have a 120-degree desk, you may find that you sit facing slightly different directions as you take advantage of the wide work surface. The addition of the M2 Monitor Arm allows you to quickly (and by quickly we mean effortlessly) adjust your computer monitor's position so that you can always see the screen in an optimal way.
You can purchase the M2 with a clamp on mount in a polished aluminum finish above, or you can see more options here.
Employee Review by Melanie!
Assembly: I was so excited when my new desk arrived. I love putting things together, and the thought of the finished product being my new ergonomic worksurface created happiness in my week. I first unwrapped the table top to inspect for damages. This beast arrives with foam wrapped edges and encased in shrink wrap. It was actually really easy to move around this way being that it weighs a bit. (No flimsy desks for me anymore.)
To my surprise, given the packaging, there was not even the smallest flaw. These Steelcase folks know how to package things. I then opened the boxes that contained my square post legs. There are 5 legs and each attaches to the top with 12 [twelve] screws. I drilled 60 pilot holes to attach the legs with 60 screws total. This was probably a bit overkill but now my office mates and I can sit atop my desk holding hands while singing kum ba yah. There were no enclosed instructions but it's pretty intuitive where the legs are supposed to go. I placed each leg 1/4" in from the edge as I prefer the look of that over being flush.
Cliff notes for assembly: You need a power drill with a 3/32" drill bit and phillips screwdriver attachment, some elbow grease, and about an hour of your time. After assembly you will have something that is well built and will last a long time.
The Desk: Its been several months now and the desk is the envy of the office. Aesthetically I couldn't be happier. It is arctic white with platinum steel legs. The edge banding on the side of the desk is curved at the top and bottom for a smooth transition from side to top. This feature is nice on the forearms when they are resting on the edge of the desk. The 120 degree curved front is such a nice feature.
The benefit is this: if you have catalogs and drinks and a calculator and scratch paper and swatches scattered about your desk, you have more accessible space at arms reach. The desk is thick enough to install any keyboard tray and can easily accommodate up to 4 monitors. The bottom line: Five stars. I like this desk and would recommend it any day.
