    Does this have a final finish on it that could not be spray painted? I really like this shelf but needed it in black.

      The Villages Wall Shelf has a laminate finish over the solid wood shelf, and if you decided to paint, you would need to sand and/or prime before painting so the paint will adhere to the shelf.

      Actual species is not identfied, but it is solid and heavy. To me it looks like a fruit wood or maybe a pecan wood. Diffinatly NOT oak or walnut. Doesn't look like maple either. The one I received looks better than what is pictured.
