Mark Rico
Web Content Specialist |
Meet Mark, or "Rico" as we like to call him, our resident content specialist and perennial provider of randomness.
Working at a job he didn't particularly enjoy, Mark set out to find something more fulfilling and happened to find out about Smart Furniture through a friend. "I was toiling at another company in a totally different line of work, and needed a change. One of my friends worked here, and the more I heard, the more I liked the way Smart Furniture sounded. So I applied, and bothered them to read my resume, and it worked out that I was hired to be a 3D Rendering Specialist, which is fancy talk for 'guy who plays with grownup toys all day.'"

Favorite Quote?
"When passenger of foot heave in sight, tootle the horn. Trumpet him melodiously at first, but if he still obstacles your passage then tootle him with vigor."
"You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body." -- C.S. Lewis
If you could converse with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
"Whenever I think about historical figures I'd like to meet, I wonder what the heck we would talk about, and what we'd have in common. I mean, talking with Nietzsche might be a trip if I understood German and he wasn't such a jerk. Or Tolstoy, to find out what spiritual need drove him away from his family at the end of his life.
But I would want more than just a conversation at a coffee shop. I'd want to hang out with this historical figure. And so, I think I'd pick George Washington Carver. He wasn't a jerk wrapped up in his own philosophy, his own code for living was full of kindness, and he was a very smart man who loved to learn. I think it'd be really neat to spend a day or a week just hanging out with him."
Something about you that not a lot of people know about?
"I say exactly what I'm thinking because I have a deep desire to be accepted for who I am, not because I'm inherently an open person."
What would your first college roommate say about you?
"What an immature, self-absorbed, moody little twerp. I mean, all he would listen to was Alice In Chains, Stabbing Westward, and Nirvana - and that pretentious wallet chain he wore was so stupid. Oh, and his poetry sounded like some 15 year old girl going through her first break-up. I wish he would have stopped drawing on his arms with permanent marker before his junior year."
Interesting/creative experiences helping a customer?
"I don't help customers personally - I put content on the website. But in my previous position, I made 3D designs for customers after they'd spoken with one of our designers. There were a lot of interesting ones in there, full of crazy architectural angles and fun-looking Smart Furniture Shelves, but they all kind of blur together now." |
