Melanie Silva Sales Manager Meet Melanie, a self-proclaimed "dirty hippie" and our sales manager extraordinaire. When she's not on the phone talking through office chair comparisons or looking up fabric swatches for customers, she's out and about in downtown Chattanooga walking Kona, her uber-awesome Alaskan Malamute. Searching for a job she could love, Melanie decided to join Smart Furniture as part of the sales team and hasn't looked back since. Rewarding experiences are all part of the game here, and she says "Being in sales, I have days where I do a lot of legwork and sell nary a thing and then other days where I make the cowbell ring. Life is about creating yourself." If you could converse with any historical figure, who would it be and why? "I'd like to hang out with Frida Kahlo in the Blue House. She experienced great pain and was an enlightened woman. She also slept with Leon Trotsky, Isamu Noguchi and Josephine Baker. I think she would be intriguing." Something about you that not a lot of people know about? "I was valedictorian of my college class." What would your first college roommate say about you? "You used to be a brainy, workaholic dork with no social skills. Now, you're a brainy, workaholic dork that has honed social skills." Interesting/creative experiences helping a customer? "I frequently answer the sales calls from my iPhone when not even at a computer. If I can help someone by answering a simple question, great. Sometimes I have to say 'I'm actually at Costco right now, can I follow up with you once I get back to my desk?'" Melanie's Favorites Cognita Bench I use it as a coffee table.
