First, go to the google O3D plugin page and click "Downolad O3D" to download the plugin. You will be asked to read a terms of service agrement by Google. Click "Accept and Install". The plugin will then download to your machine (it should take less than 30 seconds).
After the plugin downloads, a thank you message will appear. Close it, and return to the Smart Designer. The Smart Designer will again prompt you to install the O3D plugin, and you'll think to yourself- "But I just installed the plugin!" Don't worry- you're making progress, because this time you'll also notice another pop-up message that appears across the top of your browser window. This pop-up is basically Internet Explorer asking you if you want to run the plugin you just installed.

Click on this popup and click "Run ActiveX Control".

When you run Active X, a final popup will appear that asks you if you want to run ActiveX control. Click "Run". This will refresh your browser and enable it to run the O3D plugin. If you are using a PC, you should be able to use the Smart Designer at this point. If you are using a Mac, you will have to close and exit your browser before reopening.
If you are using Safari or Firefox on a Mac:
First, download the O3D plugin.
During the download process, you will receive an alert asking if you want to continue downloading the plugin. Press 'Continue.' The plugin installer will download as a disk image (.dmg) file and will run automatically. The Install O3D Window will come up on your screen.
After the introduction, follow the step-by-step instructions to install the plugin. You will have options to enable or disable statistics, choose where to install the plugin on your hard drive, and even more custom installation options (though the standard installation is recommended).
Once the installation has completed, be sure to quit the browser program you're using. Only closing the browser window does not close the program, and will prevent the plugin from being enabled, even though it has been installed.
After quitting, restart your browser and visit the Smart Designer® page and get started!
*Please note: You must download and install the plugin for each specific browser you want to use the Smart Designer® on. For example, downloading and installing the plugin for Safari will not enable it to work on Firefox, and vice versa.
