"Umbra" means "shade" in Italian - and it is a direct reference to the beginnings of the company. Begun after Paul Rowan failed to find a shade he liked for his apartment window - and made one himself - Umbra tends to break molds and create new categories. Les Mandelbaum came on shortly after the company was started, and 31 years later, Umbra is still innovating. Modern and casual furniture, accessories, and housewares are made affordable, and Umbra's products have won multiple awards on the world stage.
