We can tell when something isn't real, can't we? The cakes on display at that chain restaurant, for example: they're plastic and we know it. Or the plants in your dentist's waiting room, the orchid on your co-worker's desk, and the "friends" your adolescent nephew has been making in his online "community." Was that a low blow? Maybe I'm just jealous that I've never been accepted into any online "communities."
I'll work out my angst another time; in the meantime, let me present our Top 10 list of Things with Totally Made-Up Names. We're inclusive! We sell them all, even if their name means nothing but a feeling or a whim.
1. Mirra Chair
Sounds like the word "look" in Spanish; reminds me of a breeze by the easy, smooth way we tend to say it.
2. Cobi Chair
Hey there, little buddy.
3. Landeeca Sofa
I have no idea how this name makes me feel, but this sofa reminds me (in a good way) of a 1970s Lincoln Town Car.
4. T Vac Chair
"I am famous! I will name this chair ‘T Vac' after my nickname for Barbara Walters! Everyone will love it!"
5. EYHOV Single Desk System
EYHOV no idea what this name means, but the desk is neat.
6. Voi L-Shaped Desk with Layering Shelf
Voi is a name I can get behind. To me, it has connotations of productivity, spaciousness, and moving forward. I have no idea why, but that's the magic of a name — even a fake one.
7. Modu-licious Bed
Oh, those silly, silly people at Blu Dot. I wish we could get away with half the stuff they get away with. This bed is deliciously modern.
8. Topan Pendant Light
OK, so I'm not sure if this name is made-up or not, since I don't speak all the languages in the world. Let me know if it means something, would ya?
9. The Kvad
"Kvad sad. Kvad not know why existence so futile. Kvad angry! Kvad smash things!"
10. Parrot Zikmu Wireless Speakers
Phillipe Starck can name his speakers anything he wants, and people will still line up to buy them and bask in the originality of their design.
