Face Off Cafe Table by Knoll
designed by Frank Gehry
The Face Off Cafe Table was designed by arguably the greatest living architect, Frank Gehry. Gehry designed the table, and his entire line of hockey-monikered chairs and tables, with inspiration drawn from the apple crates he used to play on as a boy. Thin-sliced ribbons of maple are the dominant design feature of the Face Off Cafe Table, and the appearance transcends the modern conventions of furniture style (minimalism, etc.). The Face Off Cafe Table is delicate-seeming and lovely, but it's sturdiness as a gathering-place table is unquestioned. Bring the Face Off Cafe Table into your home, and bring in a little fun, a little beauty, and a great piece of art.
Construction notes: Each table comes stamped with the KnollStudio logo, Frank Gehry's signature and the date of production. This version of the Face Off Table has a .5" thick tempered clear glass tabletop with a polished edge. Base finish is laminated clear maple to 8-ply thickness with high-bonding urea glue.
The Face Off Cafe Table is made of hard white maple veneers laminated to 7-ply thickness. All wood grains run in the same direction for resilience. The solid maple center column prevents cracking. All Face Off Tables come with clear plastic glides with a matte frost finish. This version has a clear tempered glass tabletop.
