The Bertoia Bench is a refreshing and exquisite twist on the simplest piece of furniture in the world: the bench. Long, elegant slats of wood are pre-treated to prevent warping or bending, and the color choices are handsome and varied. However the real innovation of this piece is the elegant metal rods that hold it up. Bent into seemingly delicate positions, in conjoined Y shapes that support each end of the bench, the structure is actually incredibly strong and durable. The Bertoia Bench has become a classic as surely as all of his wire furniture has, and no home deserves to be left out. Harry Betoia first met Florence Knoll in the 1930's at the prestegious Cranbrook Acadamy of Art. Many years later in 1952, he designed the iconic Betroia seating collection including the Betoia Bench for Florence and her husband, Hans Knoll.
About the Designer
|Harry Bertoia is an Italian designer best known (and justly famous) for his Bertoia Diamond Lounge Chair, and the whole series of chairs and tables that followed from that design. A proponent of leaving space and air in his designs, Bertoia was a pioneer in using bent steel as a design tool and material, which led to the creation of durable, reproducable, and delicate looking chairs and tables. Bertoia is in the pantheon of great designers. |

Materials & Measurements
The Bertoia Bench platform is solid wood horizontal slats pre-treated to prevent warping or sagging. The slats are in a black or white painted finish. Frame is made from welded steel rods with a polished chrome finish.
