Overview

Bovist Stool by Vitra
designed by Hella Jongerius

Bovist is a decorative floor pillow, stool, and ottoman all in one. It owes its appealing shape and great seating comfort to slightly tapered radial seams around the sides and a compact filling of synthetic beads. Large embroidered patterns add attractive graphic accents to the textile cover, which is sewn together out of contrasting fabrics.

  • Complete with knitted handle to aid in moving the Bovist from room to room
  • Available in three colorful motifs: "Pottery", "Lacemaker", and "Dove"
  • Dimensions: 15" h x 21.25" dia

The Vitra Home Collection is not an interior design system or a homogeneous product line which promotes a uniform style. Rather, Vitra considers the furnishing of one's home as a process of collage - a gradual assemblage of products and objects. Not to be confused with coincidental accumulation of things, this process is a conscious arrangement that grows and changes with regard to both content and style, according to the owner's individual preferences and circumstances.

About the Designer

Hella JongeriusHella Jongerius
Hella Jongerius, born 1963 in de Meern, Netherlands, studied design at the Industrial Design Academy in Eindhoven. She subsequently attracted international attention through her work for the Dutch design label Droog Design. She taught at the Design Academy in Eindhoven from 1998-99, serving as head of the department Living/Atelier from 2000-04. In 2000, she founded the design studio JongeriusLab in Rotterdam, where she creates, produced and markets many of her designs – primarily dishware, vases, textiles and furnishings. Hella Jongerius' work often blurs the borders between design and handicrafts, or art and technology. Along with Jasper Morrison and Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius has made major contributions to the steadily growing Vitra Home Collection.

About the Manufacturer

VitraVitra has manufactured furniture designs by Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson since 1957. Building on this foundation over the years, the company has developed a wide range of furnishings for the office, for the home and for public spaces in collaboration with progressive designers.

Founded in 1950 as a family-owned company, Vitra is known as more than just a design-oriented manufacturing company. The name also brings to mind the Vitra Design Museum, as well as a collection of modern furniture and its accompanying archive, workshops and publications on topics of design, and an architectural concept that unites buildings by Frank Gehry, Nicholas Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA at the Vitra Headquarters in Birsfelden (Switzerland) and on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein (Germany).
