Cesca Chair by Knoll
designed by Marcel Breuer
Marcel Breuer designed the Cesca Chair as a continuing investigation of the themes he addressed in his world-famous Wassily Chair, inspired by the bicycle. Tubular steel, modernity, and the meeting of form and function. The Cesca Chair is named after his daughter, Francesca. The work of this designer is only available through Knoll, and his signature is stamped into the bottom of every chair. The Cesca Chair is a fitting work of art that highlights his contributions to the design world.
Breuer learned his craft from Gropius at the Bauhaus, and has become one of the most famous students to emerge from that hot house of talent. He is the first designer/architect to be given a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of art, and he finished his career teaching at Harvard. The Cesca Chair stands as proof of his genius.
About the Designer
||Marcel Breuer had a rich career in the design community from the 1920s through the 1950s. Born in Hungary, Breuer eventually became a professor at the Harvard School of Design and helped to foster Americas unique sense of style and taste in the post World War Two era. His standout furniture creations include the Wassily Chair, named after his roommate Wassily Kandinsky, and the Cesca Chair, named for his daughter Francesca.
