Comback Chair, 4 Leg Base, Set of 2
designed by Patricia Urquiola
At A Glance:
The comb-back chair, or Comback Chair, is Kartell's foray into 18th-century England. Going back to a time when steam was used to bend wood into the shapes needed to form the chair's shape, Kartell chooses a different material altogether.
The seat, back, and arms of the Kartell Comback Chair with four legs are formed from a single plastic mold, while this modern Windsor chair's legs incorporate the style's original material: wood.

About the Designer
A gifted Spanish architect and designer, Patricia Urquiola now lives and works in Milan. Though from a sociocultural point of view, she is very attached to the Spanish tradition, her studies influenced her to such an extent that she became of the most important figures of modern Italian design. She takes into consideration the impact that her products have on the vast public. She focuses on the design of exchangeable units without using modular elements, and successfully creates environments designed to encourage positive feelings and company.
There is very little that Patricia Urquiola has not done in the field of design. From interiors to furniture to wallpaper, she has gifted the design world with her innovative thoughts and ideas. To say her work is experimental with both form and material doesn’t do justice to the imagination, the creative flair and the enduring practicality that characterizes her designs. Both she and her products have been celebrated and received many esteemed awards, including being selected for the Italian Design 2001 exhibition and for International Design Yearbook 1999 and 2001. At the 2006 Design Awards, she was crowned the Furniture Designer of the Year. Her recent work includes projects for De Padova, Moroso, B&B Italia, Kartell, and others.
