Charles and Ray Eames considered many shapes for this large table introduced in 1951, but their final choice was elliptical. It reminds some of a surfboard, and its long shape fits perfectly in front of a wide couch. With its long, low profile, the Eames elliptical table provides a dramatic accent in any sitting area. It sets a striking stage for displaying mid-century kitsch, fresh flowers, magazines, or a special book in a living room, waiting room, reception area, or executive lounge. Finished in either black or white laminate, the table makes a strong and beautiful statement wherever it is. The wire-rod base design is a signature Eames look. Rods are zinc plated or powder-coated black or white to coordinate with the top you choose.
What's To Like:
The Elliptical Table's 89 inches of surface length provide an expansive arc that lets you spread out or display items - a lot or a few. The tabletop consists of a strong, seven-ply Baltic birch core sandwiched between high-pressure black or white laminate. The edge is beveled on an attractive 20-degree angle to give the top added emphasis.
What's Not To Like:
If you don't have a lot of lateral space in your sitting area, this table's too long. It works best as an anchor to help define space, and not so well when it's completely hemmed in.

The Eames Elliptical Table is unique in the mid-century design catalogue, and makes a strong statement by its length alone, without going into fancy contortions to prove its attractiveness. At home in the modern living room, this coffee table is the perfect complement to most long sofas and spacious rooms.
