Optic Storage Cube by Kartell
designed by Patrick Jouin
A faceted cube with transparent and mirrored parts that create an undulating reflective atmosphere across its entire surface area. This effect, which Kartell has seemingly mastered, creates a unique pool of light that seems to dance across the Optic Cube's surface when viewing it from different angles. The Kartell Optic Cube offers a myriad of potential combinations when used in unison with other cubes.
Use Optic as a colorful storage option. 5-sided block has one open side for storing whatever you need. An optional door is available for a more concealed appearance.
About the Designer
Patrick Jouin was born in Nantes, France, in 1967. He got his diploma “ENSCI-les Ateliersâ€, Ecole nationale supérieure de création industrielle, in 1992 in Paris. Working as a designer for the “Compagnie des Wagons-lits†and for “tim thomâ€, THOMSON multimedia, with the Art Direction of Philippe Starck, he collaborated with Philippe Starck’s studio in Paris from 1995 to 1999. He was awarded Designer of the Year in 2003 at Maison & Objet, Paris. His firm, founded in 1999, is so busy it has been split in two: Patrick Jouin ID, for the design of objects, and Jouin Manku (in partnership with Sanjit Manku), for interiors and architecture. Even the most exacting design snob should find something to like among his output, so varied and multiform are his realizations.
Patrick Jouin stands out through his elegant, clean style designed to serve the project: the quest for balance between tradition and innovation leads to luminous, enchanted designs. Taste and close attention to technique is one of the permanent characteristics of Patrick Jouin’s designs. He is also hailed for his ability to keep together the functionality of an object and the design of a space, its line and beauty: an alliance that ensures long-term protection for his production.
About the Manufacturer
Creativity and technology, glamour and functionality, quality and innovation: a combination of extraordinary factors together with a strategic vision of distribution has contributed to the lasting success of Kartell. By cultural and entrepreneurial choice, since its origins in 1949 the Italian manufacturer has chosen to characterize itself as the market leader in the production of designers articles which use technology and plastic materials. This choice requires a great understanding of materials and transformation technology. A leader in furniture design, Kartell addresses an international audience with a collection unique in originality, variety, size, and range.
Contrary to the common idea, products in plastic materials are highly ecological for the reason that they can be recycled (with the exception of polyurethane, little used in Kartell products). Thus, Kartell products can be easily recycled. In order to simplify the recycling process, the various components of Kartell products can be easily separated and reduced to elements made of one single material. Moreover, the plastic parts of each product carry, clearly printed, an identification mark to determine the correct classification of the different kinds of plastic and their effective recycling.
